RIT Big Shot Event

On May 8th, I participated in RIT's 24th Big Shot Event photographing the Erie Canal & historic Schoen Place in Pittsford NY. The annual event is produced by RIT School of Photographic Arts and Sciences where hundreds of participants collaborate in an evening photograph by "painting with light" and illuminating a scene for the camera to capture. It was the first Big Shot I've participated in and it was a fun and exciting experience. I can't wait for next year!

Imagine RIT Innovation & Creativity Festival

On May 3rd, I was part of the Imagine RIT festival as a presenter representing the Lab for Technological Literacy.

The OLPC XO Laptop was a huge draw as I explained our mission and demonstrated the XO to hundreds during the festival.

XO Laptop Workshop

On March 26th, 2008 I helped organize, administer, & facilitate an OLPC XO Laptop workshop at RIT in the GCCIS building. Many visitors stopped in to see & touch an XO in person. Visitors experimented with networking the laptops and collaborated with fun applications designed for interaction and education.

RIT Research

I am now doing research for the Lab for Technological Literacy at Rochester Institute of Technology. The focus of my research will be on One Laptop Per Child (OLPC), the XO Laptop, & Educational Software.

I will be assessing the educational value of the OLPC initiative with a focus on how the educational software & applications meet and/or exceed the United States National Public Educational Standards and the International Standards as well.

Resources include the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), National Educational Technology Standards (NETS), MIT Science Technology Engineering & Math
(STEM), and several other sources.
